More Photos

You will find a selection of restored, colourised and retouched images below.  We like to keep numbers reasonably manageable, to keep page load times down, although we swap out the displayed images occasionally for something else so there is something new to see.

We have included a few contemporary images that have been colourised or partially so, colours aren't just for older images, it can make for pleasing results.  We have also included a very old flyer from A & G Taylor, 'Photographers to The Queen', dated 1879, which was attached to the back of a big old portrait that was in an even bigger old picture frame and was part of a larger body of material we were working on for a client; restoration isn't, necessarily, just for photos, if it can be scanned something can generally be done.

If you would like to get some idea of scanning quality we have added a few images further down the page, we have chosen 35mm as the source format as it it the most common, they might be helpful; if it doesn't mean a thing to you, why should it, just get in touch and ask us, the FAQ page may be of help too.

Scanned Images

Below are a couple of 35mm frames scanned at 4000dpi, one negative and one slide (positive), and a scan of an old 6x4 inch (15x10cm) print at 600dpi.  These images are optimised for screen viewing in their current form, they will display very well on most screens and if your screen is large enough you could attempt to approximate the sizes indicated, but you'll need to stand back a metre or so to take them in.  Optimised for printing, the slide and negative frames would print natively at 18x12 inches (45x30cm) with a small white border and 12x8 inches (30x20cm) with border for the print scan and look very good indeed.  It should give you some idea of the quality possible although there are multiple factors that will influence outcomes.

Information on equipment and film stock used is provided if that is helpful to you.  The only caveat is that although these images are scanned and corrected as per the scanning specifications stated in the pricing section, they have additionally been meticulously hand spotted for remaining dust and other marks, the B&W image of course doesn't respond to automated dust and scratch systems, and selectively sharpened.  We can offer enhanced services for scanned images on a per image basis for additional cost, but it may be something for certain rather than all images.
