Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are tiny text files that contain small pieces of data that are used to identify your device, performing certain tasks, some of which are essential, to allow a website to function as intended and improve the users overall web browsing experience, such as:

  • saving your passwords so you do not need to input them again when you re-visit a website

  • remembering what sites you have visited so you can view your browser history

  • keeping track of your shopping cart as you browse an online store

  • showing you targeted advertisements based on your browsing behaviour

  • verifying user login details

Cookies are neither a virus or spyware.  The law protects website users by allowing them to opt-out from the use of cookies via their website browser if they wish.

Just Pictures and cookies use

   We may use cookies to:

  • personalise your visit and to enable you to use some of the features of the site

  • improve the way the site works by helping us to understand how you use it

  • see which website you arrived at our site from where we may have advertised our services

You can use your browser settings to manage cookies.  The ‘help’ menu of most if not all browsers will assist you in adjusting your cookie preferences.  However, if you do decide to disable cookies used on this site you may find that the site will not function as it should.

Are there different types of cookies?

Yes, but some are more common than others and not all types are on all websites.

In general, there are three different ways to classify cookies: what purpose they serve, how long they endure, and their origin.

   Cookie Duration:

  • Session cookies are temporary and expire once you close your browser (or once your session ends).

  • Persistent cookies encompasses all cookies that remain on your system until you erase them or your browser does, depending on the cookie’s expiration date. All persistent cookies have an expiration date written into their code, but their duration can vary, but they should not last longer than 12 months.

   Cookie Origin:

  • First-party cookies, as the name implies, are put on your device by the website you are visiting.

  • Third-party cookies are placed on your device, not by the website you are visiting, but by a third party like an advertiser or an analytic system.

   Cookie Purpose:

  • 'Strictly necessary' cookies are essential for you to browse websites and use their features, such as accessing secure areas of the site. Cookies that allow web shops to hold your items in your cart while you are shopping online are an example of strictly necessary cookies. These cookies will generally be first-party session cookies. While it is not required to obtain consent for these cookies, what they do and why they are necessary should be explained.

  • Preferences cookies or 'functionality cookies, allow a website to remember choices you have made previously, like what language you prefer or what your user name and password are so you can automatically log in.

  • Statistics cookies or 'performance cookies,' collect information about how you use a website, like which pages you visit and which links you clicked on. None of this can be used to identify you.  Their sole purpose is to improve website functionality.  This includes cookies from third-party analytics services as long as the cookies are for the exclusive use of the owner of the website visited.

  • Marketing cookies track your online activity to help advertisers deliver more relevant advertising or to limit how many times you see an ad. These cookies can share that information with other organizations or advertisers. These are persistent cookies and almost always of third-party origin.

These are the main ways of classifying cookies, although there are cookies that will not fit neatly into these descriptions or that may cross in to more than one category.
